The Material Design Lab is an interdisciplinary space where science and design meet in the exploration and understanding of materials.

We believe the key to innovation lies in cross-disciplinary collaborations and therefore we make an effort to work with a variety of professionals from both research and industry.

The Material Design Lab is part of KEA – Copenhagen School of Design & Technology.

SUMMER SCHOOL AT MATERIAL DESIGN LAB

This summer from the 9th – 15th of August 2017, Material Design Lab ran a short summer school in the heart of Copenhagen.

CRASH COURSE IN THE FUTURE OF MATERIALS & DESIGN

There are things that data and theory cannot teach you! This summer school was about knowing for yourself. From craft to synthetic biology, participants were guide you through hands-on experiences in order to learn about making materials and design.
This short course is placed in a cross-disciplinary field between art, technology and natural science. We explored the making of things in a future that presents a lack of resources, emanating new technologies and requirements for products to fit in to a circular economy.

Lectures were given by the Material Design Lab team along with visiting guest lectures from bioengineer and molecular biologist Keenan Pinto from Space 10 and Biologigaragen and maker and 3D print expert Laura Penman.

The workshops were held at KEA – Copenhagen School of Design & Technology at the Guldbergsgade campus and other locations around Copenhagen.
